Duquesne University is set to embark on a major initiative to enhance campus life with a comprehensive renovation of Vickroy Hall during the 2025-2026 academic year.

The building-wide upgrades, which will temporarily close the residence hall, represent the University’s commitment to fostering vibrant, supportive living environments where students can thrive on their horizon-expanding academic journey.

“Living on campus is an experience of a lifetime,” said Dr. Leanna Fenneberg, senior vice president for student life. “Research shows that students who live on campus are more likely to engage with campus life and access resources that help them succeed. We value the residential experience for Duquesne students and will continuously seek opportunities to enhance individual and community living spaces.”

Building on recent successes of the renovations of Brottier and St. Martin Halls and the debut of McGinley Hall in collaboration with Lumina Communities, the Vickroy Hall project will deliver additional improvements to suite-style living. These enhancements are designed to elevate the student residential experience by enriching Living Learning Centers and strengthening the connection between students’ academic and personal growth.

Planned renovations include updates to the lobby, lounges and student rooms as well as new paint, flooring and lighting and modernized laundry facilities. A critical component of the Vickroy project, however, is its focus on student input.

“What is especially exciting about this project is the importance of feedback from students who live in Vickroy Hall,” explained Anne Lahoda, assistant vice president of student housing and residence life. “We have surveyed students and are meeting with them in focus groups to understand how living spaces can better foster comfort, community and academic success. Listening to our students is essential to building living environments where they can thrive.”

The reimagined Vickroy Hall will not only elevate the residential experience but also reflect Duquesne’s broader mission of creating transformative educational environments.

“While we are committed to renovating Vickroy Hall, our Facilities partners are already exploring future improvements for other residence halls,” Fenneberg added.
