The University recently recognized Maestro Manfred Honeck, esteemed music director of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (PSO), with an honorary Doctor of Music degree.

President Ken Gormley presented the honorary degree to Honeck at the Feb. 18 Duquesne Symphony Orchestra (DSO) concert in the Power Center Ballroom. Honeck, who has led the GRAMMY Award-Winning PSO since 2008, guest conducted the DSO performance of Johann Straus’ Frühlingsstimmen.

In addition, Gormley publicly bestowed the honorary degree upon Honeck at the Feb. 23 Duquesne Day at the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra at Heinz Hall. The gathering was preceded by a special reception for Duquesne students, faculty, staff, alumni and guests.

The events not only honored Honeck’s outstanding contributions but also highlighted the deep relationship shared by the PSO, the Mary Pappert School of Music and Duquesne University that enriches the community through cultural and educational collaboration.
