The Interprofessional Education Collaborative Committee (IPEC) kicked off the spring 2025 semester with a workshop aimed at expanding interprofessional education opportunities across its health-related programs.
The Jan. 8 workshop brought together faculty from multiple schools to enhance their skills in facilitating collaborative, team-based learning. Since its founding in 2011, IPEC has taken the lead on campus in fostering interdisciplinary collaboration among administrators, faculty, students and community partners.
Learning together, 16 faculty members from the Schools of Health Sciences, Nursing and Pharmacy, the College of Osteopathic Medicine, the Center for Integrative Health and the Duquesne China Health Institute attended the workshop. Dr. Laura Kunkel, clinical associate professor in kinesiology at the University of Texas at Arlington, an expert in interprofessional education, facilitated the workshop, which was organized by IPEC co-chairs Dr. Sarah Manspeaker, associate professor of athletic training, and Dr. Elizabeth DeIuliis, clinical associate professor of occupational therapy.
Supported by the Office of the Provost and the Rangos School of Health Sciences, the workshop emphasized Duquesne’s commitment to interprofessional education, which plays a critical role in meeting accreditation standards and advancing the University’s strategic goals. By refining faculty facilitation techniques, the event ensures that Duquesne continues to prepare future health care professionals for success in an increasingly collaborative and team-oriented field.
