The Minority Professional Development Internship Program (now known as the Minority
Professional Development Fellowship Program) recently received the Inclusion Cultivates
Excellence Award from the College and University Professional Association for Human
Resources (CUPA-HR). This honor recognizes institutional initiatives and programs
that have significantly impacted inclusive and equitable workplace practices, particularly
those that have brought about cultural change throughout the organization. CUPA-HR,
with support from EyeMed, contributed a cash gift to the University in addition to
the award. Pictured here from the left are Mariana Gowdy, intern for the Division
of University Advancement; Trent Collins, Senior Employment and Diversity Recruiter
and Manager of the Minority Professional Development Fellowship Program; and Venetia
Khouri, intern for the Center for Excellence in Diversity and Student Inclusion. The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Certificate Program at Duquesne, launched
through a partnership between Chief Diversity Officer Crystal McCormick Ware and Dana
Whatley Smith, former Assistant Director of Learning and Development in the Office
of Human Resources, recently received the Engaging Pittsburgh: Innovative People Practices
Award from the Pittsburgh Human Resources Association. This award honors companies
that excel in investing in their employees through innovative learning practices.
The program aligns with the University's mission by promoting diversity education,
encouraging meaningful conversations, and fostering lasting relationships among Duquesne
faculty and staff.
