Sarah Ewing

Sarah J. Ewing, Ph.D., serves as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Duquesne University of the Holy Spirit, a role she began in July 2026. As Duquesne's chief academic officer, she works closely with President David Dausey and alongside the university's academic deans to advance Duquesne's academic mission, strengthen curriculum and accreditation, and guide execution of the university’s strategic plan.

Dr. Ewing brings nearly two decades of progressively responsible academic leadership to this role, most recently as Provost and Vice President for Student Experience at Gannon University. There, she provided strategic leadership across the university's academic and student experience divisions. She led Project NePTWNE, a major regional initiative that included a new campus greenhouse and the Center for Lake Erie Education and Research. She also guided integrated academic and student success strategies that strengthened retention across the university and supported the merger of the university with Ursuline College in Pepper Pike, Ohio.

Earlier in her career, Dr. Ewing served as Dean of Gannon's Morosky College of Health Professions and Sciences, where she led the college's academic programs and accreditation efforts, and grew its Ruskin, Florida campus. She began as a biology faculty member and department chair.

Dr. Ewing holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Biomedical Sciences, with a focus on molecular cancer biology, from North Carolina State University, where she was later named a Distinguished Alumna by the College of Veterinary Medicine, and a B.S. in Biology from Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, where she was a Schreyer Scholar and an NCAA Division III student-athlete.

She has served on numerous boards and civic organizations, including the UPMC Hamot Hospital Board of Directors, the Hamot Health Foundation, and Our West Bayfront, where she served as Vice Chair.
