About the Grant
Catholicism and the Common Good aims to foster innovative scholarship as well as practices of public engagement. The goals are:
- to understand and address issues that are important for the common good;
- to foster collaborative networks across institutions, academic disciplines, and faith traditions;
- to develop better ways for connecting scholarship to the variety of stakeholders it is meant to serve
Originally designed as a three-year project, Catholicism and the Common Good halted several initiatives in the spring of 2020 due to the state-mandated closure of Duquesne University in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. The Luce Foundation generously granted a no-cost extension for a fourth year that enabled us to reschedule the planned projects in the 2020-21 academic year.
