Hands-on Introduction to the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL)

At Duquesne University, peer-reviewed SoTL articles can serve as an indicator of excellence in teaching for promotion and tenure, and of professional accomplishment in teaching for promotion in non-tenure track positions. The Creative Teaching Award is also based on a SoTL model. If you are interested in learning about conducting research on teaching and learning, this hands-on workshop will get you started. SoTL involves systematically studying teaching and learning, and making your study public. In this session, you will learn about various kinds of SoTL and the rules governing involving students as research respondents (IRB). You will draft a research question and brainstorm methods for gathering relevant student-learning data.
