The Language Disorders and Autism Clinic is dedicated to supporting children, adolescents,
and young adults with language and communication delays, language disorders, and autism.
Our approach incorporates neurodiversity-affirming language and communication strategies
that respect and celebrate the many ways people think, learn, and communicate.

Our Services
Services are provided both in person and via teletherapy by graduate students in training under the direct supervision of certified speech-language pathologists.

Intervention Approaches
Our clinicians use individualized, evidence-based strategies designed to promote meaningful communication and learning. Examples include:
- Functional communication strategies to enhance participation and social interaction
- Child-directed interventions for young children on the autism spectrum or with developmental delays
- Vocabulary and grammar skill development
- Expressive language, word-finding, and narrative interventions
- Strategy instruction for listening and reading comprehension
- Early reading (phonological awareness), spelling, and writing skill development
- Consultation and intervention for individuals who use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) and their communication partners across the lifespan
Meet Our Team
Abigail (Abby) Delehanty, Ph.D., CCC-SLP
Dr. Delehanty serves as the Program Director of the Language Disorders and Autism
Clinic. She is an Associate Professor and the Assistant Department Chair of the Department
of Speech-Language Pathology. Abby received her doctoral degree from Florida State
University and her master’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin. She has
extensive experience providing services to children and adolescents with communication
disorders and those on the autism spectrum in early intervention and public school
settings.
Maura Maloney, M.S., CCC-SLP
Maura is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Language Disorder and Autism Clinic.
She received her master’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh and her bachelor’s
degree from Kent State University. Maura has experience providing evaluations and
treatment to children and adolescents with speech and language disorders, individuals
on the autism spectrum, and users of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC).
