Dr. Jessica Mann, Dr. Sandra Quiñones, Dr. Jesse Rine Journal Club
- 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM
- CETR Conference Room, 20 Chatham Square, Murphy Building
Faith-based institutions have a particular interest in community engagement stemming from their unique institutional missions that emphasize service and outreach. Dr. Rine, Dr. Quiñones, and Dr. Mann will discuss a special theme issue about community engagement recently published in Christian Higher Education (Volume 19, Issue 1, January 2020). This special issue features a curated set of conceptual and empirical research articles written by faculty members and scholar-practitioners from eight different institutions representing a wide range of religious, geographic, and structural contexts. As the guest co-editors, Dr. Rine and Dr. Quiñones will share insights about the editorial process and provide an overview of the editorial piece, Doing Justice, Loving Kindness, Walking Humbly: Christian Approaches to Community Engagement. As the author of the lead article in this special issue, Dr. Mann will describe how she mapped the landscape of community engagement in higher education in Mission Animation: Christian Higher Education, The Common Good, and Community Engagement." Join us in this timely and important conversation about community engagement scholarship and practice at faith-based institutions.
The CETR journal club intends to be a space where faculty and community partners can come together and learn about community-engaged scholarship. Each meeting will begin with a brief 10 minute presentation of a paper, followed by group discussion. The presentation and discussion will pay particular attention to the components of the work that are about community engagement. Refreshments will be provided.
