Respiratory Illness Recommendations
Students with respiratory illness-like symptoms (cough, nasal congestion, sneezing, runny nose, and/or fever over 100.2, body aches, sore throat, headaches, etc.) may call Health Services to seek care. Examples of respiratory illnesses are the common cold, influenza or the flu, and COVID-19.
If you think you may have a respiratory virus, please see the recommendations below.
If you have a fever greater than 100.2, stay home and away from others (including people you live with who are not sick).
You may return to normal activities when, for at least 24 hours, both are true:
- You have not had a fever (and are not using fever-reducing medication).
- Improving in respiratory symptoms
-
- Masking is encouraged if you will be around other people indoors for the next 5 days.
-
If you develop a fever or the fever returns after you have gone back to normal activities, stay home and away from others again until, for at least 24 hours, both are true: your symptoms are improving overall, and you have not had a fever (and are not using fever-reducing medication).
PCHR Students - Please check with your clinical coordinator/instructor for any specific clinical site instructions.
COVID-19, and Influenza are very common respiratory viruses that cause significant amounts of disease, especially in the fall and winter season. We also have immunizations and treatments that help prevent severe outcomes of these viruses. Please call to schedule a vaccination at 412-396-1650.
Individuals on campus who are exposed to someone with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 ARE NOT required to quarantine or isolate.
