Alpha Phi was founded on October 10, 1872, at Syracuse University and quickly grew to universities around the nation and Canada. Alpha Phi is currently the third largest Panhellenic sorority. The Epsilon Iota chapter was founded at Duquesne in 1970.
Alpha Phi's philanthropy is the Alpha Phi Foundation, a trifold organization that supports scholarships and financial aid for sisters, empowering women in leadership, and its biggest focus: heart health. Duquesne Alpha Phi has raised thousands of dollars for their philanthropy through events such as their annual Red Dress Gala and Alpha Phifa.
This chapter has been recognized internationally for their 2015-2016 recruitment, along with receiving the DUV Student Organization of the Year Award for the past two consecutive years.
