Her research involves removing fluoride from groundwater. Fluoride in groundwater can be a potential risk to young children who are still developing. She traveled to Tanzania with the Pure Thirst student group on campus in summer 2019 to test fluoride levels in groundwater samples.

"What I liked most about working in Tanzania was meeting the residents and the community, listening to their concerns and trying to integrate them into my research," Kara says.
