Music of Local Jazz Legends to be Featured in Uptown Jazz Series’ New Season
Duquesne's Mary Pappert School of Music's annual Uptown Jazz Series will feature the works of native Pittsburgh jazz composers and artists.
The Uptown Jazz Series: Local Legends kicks off Tuesday, Sept. 10, with The Music of Billy Strayhorn at 7:30 p.m. in the School of Music's PNC Recital Hall.
Mike Tomaro, director of the jazz studies program in the music school, is both artistic director of-and a saxophonist in-the Uptown Jazz Series. The concerts feature School of Music faculty as well as guest artists.
This year, the School of Music will partner with the non-profit organization Pittsburgh Creators' Project, which promotes composers, choreographers, photographers, filmmakers and others who are from or have ties to the greater Pittsburgh area. Prior to each concert in the series, Pittsburgh Creators' Project will exhibit work in the PNC Recital Hall lobby.
Additional concerts in the series, all of which will be held in PNC Recital Hall, include:
· Local Legends-Pittsburgh Potpourri, Part One, Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 7:30 p.m.
· Local Legends-Pittsburgh Pianists, Monday, Nov. 18, at 7:30 p.m.
