Patricia M. Swisher Named Executive Director of Content Strategy at Duquesne
Patricia Swisher has joined the Duquesne University Division of Marketing and Communications as its executive director of content strategy. She began her role-which is a new position at Duquesne-on Nov. 14.
Swisher is responsible for the strategy, development and presentation of brand-related content at the University and also serves as editor-in-chief of the Duquesne alumni magazine. She also oversees the content team, which is comprised of social media, media relations, web communications, web design and video/photography staff.
"As a Duquesne alum and lifelong Pittsburgher, I'm excited to return to campus to put my education and professional knowledge and experience to use to benefit the University," Swisher said. "I look forward to helping the University achieve even greater success in sharing the many impactful stories of Duquesne in the digital marketing and communications environments in which we operate."
A veteran marketing and digital and social media professional, Swisher most recently served as a senior manager of marketing and communication at UPMC Enterprises. In addition, she was director of marketing communications and then vice president of corporate communications at IKM Incorporated. Swisher also is an adjunct professor at the Point Park University School of Communication, where she teaches Social Media Practices and works with graduate and undergraduate students on journalism and marketing skills.
"After a very competitive national search, we are fortunate to have attracted someone with Patty's track record of success in marketing and communications-and that she also happens to be an alumna of Duquesne," Gabriel Welsch, Duquesne's vice president of marketing and communications, said. "With experience in digital marketing, social media, project management, strategic communications and all the intricacies related to effective contemporary messaging, Patty will add great leadership and dexterity to the University's already strong team. Having taught at the university level and worked in health care and architecture, her range of industry understanding is impressive. She is a wonderful addition."
Swisher earned a bachelor of science in business administration from Duquesne University and a master of arts in journalism with a public relations concentration from Point Park University.
"I share Gabe Welsch's commitment to quality content to ensure that we work 'smarter' to meet our communication objectives with the diverse stakeholders who comprise the University community, from prospective and current students, to alumni, donors, parents, faculty, staff and administration," Swisher added.
Swisher lives in Gibsonia, Pa., with her husband and two sons.
