OFFICE OF DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION

Overview:

In a highly visible manner, the Office of Diversity and Inclusion leads many efforts to show Duquesne University's appreciation and commitment to diversity. Our office takes great pride in collaborating with a wide variety of internal members, community partners and other regional institutions of higher education in an effort enhance the experience for many in our university community. In working with others, the unique dignity of anyone we encounter is valued, supported and uplifted in any way possible.

For our focus on students, we seek to increase services to aid the enrollment, retention, academic performance and graduation rates of our students. At a university level, this commitment is exhibited through financial support, professional feedback the clear approval to engage internal and external constituents for the betterment of our student and university overall. The strategic priorities for our office are framed around: Inclusion, Positive Lifelong Impact, Program Excellence and Resource Development. We seek to form authentic relationships with all of our students.

Programs and services offered by our office include: Annual Pre-Orientation Program, Spirit of Diversity Dinner & Scholarship Benefit, Annual Turkey Drive, Alumni Reunion, Student Development Series, Book Loan Program, Community Mentoring Program and Diversity & Social Justice Workshops. Also, the following organizations are under guidance of our office: Asian Student Association (ASA), Black Student Union (BSU), Caribbean Student Association (CSA), Collegiate 100, Ebony Women for Social Change, International Student Organization (ISO), Latin American Student Association (LASA), Muslim Student Organization, Gay Straight Alliance (LAMBDA) and Union of African Students (UAS). Official partnerships with over 30 non-profit organizations in the Greater Pittsburgh community in such areas of education, poverty and mentoring are also possessed in the Office of Diversity and Inclusion.
