Online MSN Programs

Our flexible online Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) programs allow you the freedom to pursue the next step in your education in a manner that fits your schedule.

Demand for nurses is increasing, and health care systems continue to depend on nurses prepared to plan, initiate, effect and evaluate change through holistic patient care, advocating for patients and continuing education at all levels.

Earning your Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree at Duquesne University allows you to expand your knowledge of nursing practice and patient care. An MSN can make you more autonomous in your career and prepare you to teach future nurses.

The baccalaureate degree program in nursing, master’s degree program in nursing, Doctor of Nursing Practice program and the post-graduate APRN certificate program at Duquesne University are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.

Benefits of Online Coursework

As an online student, you will benefit from:

  • Convenient online coursework you can complete around your schedule.
  • Preparation courses for certification examinations.
  • Access to resources like our online libraries, writing centers, continuing education and conference opportunities, and online orientation.
  • A dedicated support team to help you every step of the way, from enrollment, through your courses and even after graduation.

The Duquesne University nursing curriculum offerings present coursework that fits the timing most convenient for a student’s daily schedule. There’s virtually no difference between the support received in online nursing programs vs. classroom settings where courses are held in-person.

Further, online programs are qualified under the same accreditation credentials as on-campus programs, offering the academic legitimacy and credibility students are looking for in a learning experience. Our goal is to ensure that every student receives our signature quality educational offerings, regardless of the learning modality.

On-Campus Residency

Some of our MSN tracks require students to complete a residency on-campus in addition to their virtual studies for certain courses in order to help them display and practice skills, prepare for relevant exams and meet each other and their faculty. The residency requirements vary by program.

Our online MSN students benefit from on-campus residencies where they go deeper into each body system through physical assessments prior to their clinical rotations. These on-campus visits also allow our online students to connect with classmates and network with faculty they have interacted with online, and allows them to gain valuable hands-on practice in addition to their studies.

How Will a Campus Residency Benefit You?

Chris Baker teaching a class

"The on-campus residency weeks are great. I knew nothing about advanced physical assessment or anything. Even working every day with patients as a nurse, I still had no idea about some of these other techniques. Being able to practice them firsthand with people who could assist me was tremendously helpful."

Chris Baker DNP, FNP-BC, CRNP Clinical Assistant Professor
