Biography
Dr. Semelka was born and raised in the greater Erie, PA region. He received a B.S. in Biology from Penn State University, completed medical school at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, and completed a family medicine residency at The Medical Center of Beaver. He also completed a faculty development fellowship at Duke University.
Dr. Semelka has worked at the Latrobe Hospital Family Medicine Residency since 2005 and has served as the program director since 2009, where he continues to work and train residents and medical students in office, hospital, and newborn nursery settings. Dr. Semelka has published articles and given national talks on multiple clinical and educational topics.
Dr. Semelka is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians, the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association, the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors, and the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine. Additionally, Dr. Semelka is a founding board member of the American College of Family Medicine, an organization dedicated to upholding the principles of Hippocratic Medicine.
As the inaugural Primary Care Department Chair of the Duquesne University College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Semelka is privileged to oversee a talented team of Division Chiefs who live in their shared vision of developing medical students into highly skilled physicians who are prepared to excel in residency training and beyond.
