Walking Alongside You
Socializing, meeting new friends and trying new activities are all important aspects
of college life. Your choices matter. Your behavior matters. Your character matters.
At Duquesne University, we want you do all these things—safely—so that you can reach
your bigger goals and become the best version of yourself.
We are here to walk alongside you, and provide you with support and information about
the risks associated with alcohol and/or drug use through the following:
- Educational programs and alcohol-free social events in our Living Learning Centers, classrooms and various locations across campus
- Facilitation of short-term interventions for students violating alcohol and/or other drug policies or laws
- Consultations, brief assessments and referrals to appropriate alcohol and/or drug addiction treatment services when needed
New Peer Education Program
Interested in educating Duquesne students on risk and protective factors? As a certified Peer Educator, you'll help share information on risk and protective factors surrounding alcohol, drugs and mental health awareness from a clinical response perspective.
We'll Help You Navigate Challenges
The Duquesne University Alcohol and Other Drug Education Program (DU CARES) empowers students to make informed choices that promote personal well-being, academic success and community responsibility. Through inclusive education, supportive resources and collaborative engagement, we foster a culture of growth, resilience and thriving—helping students navigate life's challenges with awareness, purpose and confidence. We will help students learn to understand the inherent risks associated with the realities of illegal and excessive alcohol and drug use/misuse on campus using evidenced based strategies. A comprehensive program will help our students be more successful—personally, academically, socially—and will help student retention at the University.
