Orientation

Orientation is your official welcome into a community that values connection, purpose, and spirit – it's where we roll out the red (and blue) carpet for our newest Dukes. What sets it apart? It’s designed and executed almost entirely by students, for students. Orientation Leaders—upper-level student mentors—guide new Dukes through a dynamic week of engagement and information to help them build friendships, feel at home on the Bluff and prepare for their journey ahead. And the excitement doesn’t stop there—students can earn Burgh Bucks by showing up and getting involved, then cash them in at week’s end for a shot at major prizes in the always-popular Burgh Buck Auction.

Heritage Week

Held each year during the week of October 1st, Heritage Week hosts several events including the Feast of Spiritan Founder Claude des Places, the University Birthday celebration, and Duq Community Days. Other events throughout the week celebrate our roots as a school that started above a bakery for the children of immigrants. Events vary in time and type to engage faculty, staff, and students in celebrating and learning about our Catholic, Spiritan heritage. Students have opportunities to lean into our institutional commitment to service – through hands-on service projects, learning about community partners and service opportunities, and engaging in philanthropy.

Each year, the Fall Carnival brings students, faculty, and friends together for a cozy, joy-filled evening of seasonal fun, shared memories and lively performances under the crisp autumn sky.
