For her exemplary efforts in reporting on civil rights and embodying responsible journalism, renowned journalist Yamiche Alcindor will receive the inaugural Duquesne University Award for Ethics and Integrity in Journalism.

Duquesne University President Ken Gormley will present the award to Alcindor at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, December 1, at 6 p.m.

“Yamiche Alcindor was selected by a distinguished committee to receive this inaugural award because her work reflects the highest standards of ethics and integrity in journalism,” said President Gormley. “She has not been afraid to confront even the most difficult topics in a steady and balanced fashion, and she has remained true to her compass even in the face of controversy.”

Alcindor, who is the anchor and moderator of Washington Week on PBS and Washington correspondent for NBC News, will join President Gormley and the Institute’s Fellows for an engaging discussion about her career in journalism in Washington.

Duquesne University’s Institute for Ethics and Integrity in Journalism promotes trust in news media by creating an ongoing dialogue with the public to foster best practices and support ethical journalism. Alcindor’s record of integrity and dedication to covering issues that impact diverse communities exemplifies the spirit of the Institute’s inaugural award.

“Yamiche has taken seriously the responsibilities of her profession, giving voice to all segments of society, including those who are often without a voice,” said President Gormley. “In all these ways, this distinguished journalist’s work directly aligns with Duquesne University’s historic Spiritan mission of serving others with unwavering, selfless determination.”
