Duquesne University Red Masquers Present 'The C Word'
The Red Masquers acting troupe will kick off their spring 2020 season with a student-written play about mental illness. The C-Word is a dark comedy about mental illness and family. It explores how different generations handle mental health and how those attitudes have shifted over the years.
The story takes place after Grace returns home after being released from a psychiatric hospital. Grace is staying with her mother Mary. This is a case of the apple not even leaving the branch, let alone falling off of the tree. Tension builds throughout the show as the two realize they may not be the best influences on each other.
The C-Word runs from Wednesday, Jan. 29, through Sunday, Feb. 2 at Duquesne University's Genesius Theater, adjacent to the Mary Pappert School of Music. Wednesday through Saturday performances begin at 8 p.m. Sunday performances begin at 2 p.m.
Playwright Olivia LeSuer is a senior theater arts and philosophy dual major at Duquesne. She holds the role of president of the Red Masquers Executive Board, in addition to operating as the costume chair. She serves as the costume associate at Spotlight Costumes in their theatrical division.
Director Justin Sines is the technical director of the Genesius Theater. He has most recently directed American Idiot and Heathers: The Musical with the Summer Company. Other directing credits include Equus and How I Learned To Drive with the Red Masquers.
Tickets can be purchased for $20 (plus a $1.99 service fee), or for $10 (plus $1.49 service fee) for seniors/students, online or at the door. Those with a Duquesne ID receive free admission.
