Overview

Computing and Technology Services (CTS) provides a critical set of services enabling Duquesne University's teaching, learning, research, business, image and campus life. CTS partners with the entire campus community to meet our common goals through the University's Spiritan mission of service.


TechHub Support Desk

The TechHub Support Desk assists students, faculty and staff with technology-related questions and issues. The information on this page, as well as the Desk's hours of operations, is available on the CTS website at duq.edu/cts.

Accounts

MultiPass

Your MultiPass account is created when you are accepted to the University. A MultiPass account grants access to the Duquesne Portal, Duquesne's online resources and information portal. Once you make your deposit and return your letter of acceptance, your University email and Canvas accounts are created.

Your MultiPass credentials are the username and password you use to access the Duquesne Portal, Canvas, email and Wi-Fi. You are required to reset your password once per year.

Two weeks before your password expires, you will receive an email directing you to reset it at duq.edu/multipass.

University email

Students receive a Duquesne University email account for official correspondence with faculty and staff. You can access your email account by visiting duq.edu/mail or signing into the Duquesne Portal and clicking the Mail tile.


Connecting on campus

DuqNet wireless

DuqNet, Duquesne University's high-speed wireless network, provides connectivity across all campus buildings and in many outdoor areas. Students use their MultiPass credentials to connect to DuqNet.

DuqNet Internet of Things

DuqNet Internet of Things (IoT) is a wireless network designed for gaming consoles and streaming devices, such as Apple TV, Xbox, PlayStation and Roku. Students living on campus can register up to four enterprise-capable devices for use on DuqNet IoT.


Duquesne University TechHub Computer Store

The Duquesne University TechHub Computer Store offers technology recommended by each school and program at the University, offering the perfect solutions at a competitive price.

Here, you'll find certified sales and repairs for Apple and Dell computers as well as a monthly used computer sale. The Computer Store is located in the TechHub on the second floor of the Duquesne Union.


Computer Labs

Students have access to several computer labs across campus. Lab computers are equipped with academic software, such as Microsoft Office, SPSS, Adobe Reader and EndNote. Most labs are open daily, with one being open 24 hours per day.

Printing on campus

Students receive a print quota of $90, which renews yearly in July. If your quota runs out before the yearly renewal, visit the TechHub Computer Store to purchase more pages. The cost is $15 for 500 pages.

Duquesne also offers wireless printing from personal devices, such as laptops and tablets, to computer lab printers.


Software and Applications

Computing and Technology Services licenses academic software that students can use for free.

Microsoft Office

Students can download Microsoft Office for free on up to five personal computers and mobile devices. Microsoft Office for Windows devices features Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Access, Publisher and Outlook. Microsoft Office for macOS devices features Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and Outlook.

Box cloud storage

Students have access to cloud storage with Box. With Box, you can collaborate, upload files and share information using your computer or mobile device.


Safe Computing

Duquesne promotes a safe computing environment for its students, faculty and staff. You can stay secure by:

  • Enrolling in Duo multi-factor authentication (MFA)
  • Installing current operating system and third-party application updates and patches
  • Installing antivirus software, such as Sophos Home edition
  • Backing up important data using an external hard drive or cloud storage service
  • Protecting personally identifiable information (PII) and not sharing it with unauthorized parties
  • Identifying and not responding to phishing emails
  • Keeping secure passwords and adding multi-factor authentication to your accounts
  • Reporting suspicious online activity, such as a phishing email or online scam, to the Help Desk immediately.

Duo multi-factor authentication

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is a security approach that uses two factors to authenticate your identity when signing into a website, application or other online services. These factors include something you know, like a username and password, and something you have, such as a smartphone or security key.

You can enroll devices in Duo MFA by visiting duq.edu/duo. Devices that can be enrolled in Duo include mobile devices, USB security keys and hardware tokens.
