Management
The Management major and minor prepares students to engage in responsible decision-making. Graduates take the lead in managing projects at the organizational and operational levels. Being an ethical manager in today's business world involves managing the business organization by building a solid, sustainable organization and fostering cooperative relationships with the government, the community, labor unions, non-government organizations, and other external social forces. Duquesne's comprehensive management program prepares students to assume managerial roles in organizations of any size and across all industries.
The Management major provides students with a large number of potential career paths. Nearly every area of business seeks individuals trained and able to manage people, projects, or the organization. Opportunities are available in retail sales management, financial services management, procurement management, information systems management, and human resource management roles. Business organizations offer a variety of entry-level positions for management trainees, seeking individuals with a strong foundation in management skills such as decision-making, personnel management, project management, and organizational skills. Certain industries or services seek managers for positions such as government staff managers, compliance managers, health service managers, and human resource managers.
The Management major is designed to be an excellent companion to any other major or minor offered at the Palumbo-Donahue School of Business. Management major courses complement the functional areas of study offered by other majors in the business school, such as Marketing, Information Systems and Technology, Finance, and Accounting. Students completing another major need to complete the six required courses for a major in Management; the two elective Management courses are satisfied by the courses completed in the other major.
