The Department of Biomedical Engineering

The Department of Biomedical Engineering provides a comprehensive curriculum and valuable research opportunities to equip graduates for successful careers in healthcare, manufacturing, research, government, and further academic pursuits. Biomedical Engineering, within the department, emphasizes four key areas of education: fundamental science and mathematics, advanced engineering, software tools, and research and design. This focus enables students to acquire the knowledge and skills required for professional licensure, a broad range of professional and graduate opportunities, and positions in industry and government. The fundamental science and mathematics area establishes a strong foundation in subjects relevant to biomedical engineering, taught by experts in the respective fields. Advanced engineering coursework and practical experiences build upon this foundation, expanding students' understanding of various biomedical engineering fields. Incorporating four software tools into the curriculum, Biomedical Engineering ensures proficiency in 21st-century methods, enhancing problem-solving and design abilities.

Through mandatory laboratory research and a senior year capstone design project, students gain invaluable experience in research and design, specifically geared towards developing solutions for human health issues. With a focus on quality curriculum, meaningful research, and a cohesive educational approach, the Department of Engineering and its Biomedical Engineering program prepare students for successful careers and further academic pursuits while fostering the skills and knowledge needed to make positive contributions in the engineering field.

Learning Outcomes
